# Can Rabbits Eat Lettuce UK?

**Lettuce is not ideal rabbit food.** Iceberg lettuce is best avoided — low nutrition and diarrhoea risk. Darker leaves like romaine are acceptable in small amounts alongside better greens. **Unlimited hay must always come first.** Never let lettuce replace hay — that risks [gut stasis](/glossary/rabbit-gi-stasis).

Introduce **one new green at a time** over several days to monitor for gut upset.
