A blocked bladder can be fatal within hours. Do not wait until morning; contact your vet or an out-of-hours clinic immediately. ## Why this is urgent in male cats Male cats have a **narrow urethra**. Inflammation, crystals or mucus plugs can stop urine leaving the body. Toxins then build up in the blood (post-renal azotaemia), causing pain, vomiting, collapse and death if untreated.
